    2 Minute Almond Milk Recipe That Will Change Your Life!

    The more we find out about store-bought almond milk, the less we seem to like it these days.

    First of all, the packaging is not great for our environment or our health. Plastic, plastic-lined cardboard and wax-lined cardboard are all disposable packages that we don’t reuse. They pile up in our landfills! These packages also leach toxic plastic resins into the milk, and into our environment when they are in the landfill. BPA free plastics have been shown to contain BPA in measurable levels, and other non-stick plastic resins that are similarly toxic. [1]

    Second, the ingredients in these milks are questionable. They contain thickeners like carrageenan that can irritate your gut, and cane sugar that spikes blood sugar and promotes brain fog. You definitely don’t want to consume too much sugar before a big project or event. “…a team of scientists at the University of Montreal and Boston College linked excess glucose consumption to memory and cognitive deficiencies.” [2]

    All of these reasons have made me lean towards making homemade almond or other nut milk, but I also don’t like spending an hour a day making my own! So I came up with a solution… 

    Here’s an easy and quick way to make nut milk without any soaking or straining.


    Lazy Man’s Almond Milk

    Serves 1

    1 cup filtered water
    1 heaping Tbs. almond butter (you can use sprouted nut butter if that’s your preference!)
    Pinch of salt
    Dash of vanilla extract (about 1/2 t.)
    3 drops liquid stevia or 1 heaping t. raw honey (optional)

    Blend all ingredients together on high for 20-30 seconds. Keeps 1-2 days in the fridge. Shake or re-blend before using.


    Chocolate Milk Variation:

    In addition the ingredients above, add:
    1 T. cocoa or cacao powder
    1 heaping t. of raw honey
    1 pinch sea salt
    6 ice cubes to chill the milk if desired (or you can put it in the fridge)

    Follow the same directions as above. Keeps 1-2 days in the fridge. Shake or re-blend before using.


    Strawberry Milk Variation:

    In addition to the almond milk ingredients, add:
    1 heaping t. of raw honey
    4-5 frozen or fresh strawberries

    Follow the same directions as above. Keeps 1-2 days in the fridge. Shake or re-blend before using.
