    If you don’t mind diving right in, can you share about your health challenge? 

    I was diagnosed with Systemic Lupus Erythematosus in 1987. The doctors said I would probably not live past 40 and I could not have anymore children.

    The onset of my diagnosis made me look ahead and ask…How was I going to be a Mom to my toddler son at the time? How was I going to continue my career and personal interests? How was I going to have more children?

    As a result of taking back my health–and to the amazement of my doctors–I had another child a healthy 8lb 12oz girl named Greta and I am now 56 years old and now in remission.

    Symptoms I have experienced have been kidney failure, full-body arthritis, full-body rash, sepsis and more…each time I was determined to provide my body with foods and lifestyle practices to support the critical issue. My life is full with two healthy grown children and my own health has dispelled what conventional medicine predicted — that I would not live past 40 and I am now thriving at 56!

     

    What are you doing everyday to help others take back their health?

    Power and Balance Fitness and Nutrition takes a holistic approach to health with clients. This means mind, body and spirit all need nourishment. My clients will receive fitness coaching geared toward function and an injury free approach for getting results. They are counseled to eat real food that is nutrient dense and low in anti-nutrients.

    I created two “crazy delicious” products that are unlike any on the market to day — Nut-Nola and Seed-Nola — both only 3 grams of sugar sweetened only with organic maple syrup.

    All the ingredients were chosen for their nutrient density and aspects –– including the sweetener. These are gluten free, grain free, vegan and paleo-friendly, low carb REAL superfood alternatives to the snacks, cereals and toppings on store shelves today.

    What are you looking forward to at the next Take Back Your Health Conference?

    This conference is such an incredible resource for people who need to improve the current state of their overall health and specific health issues. Thanks to you, Robin, for your hard work and your mission to bring information to take back their health to a wide audience!

    Essentially what I want to communicate is the cause for disease and the conditions necessary for health.

    The knowledge I bring is with my story as one who has taken back my health since I was diagnosed with Systemic Lupus Erythematosus in 1987.

    I will share nuggets of the research I have accumulated over the 30 years regarding lifestyle and nutrition for longevity and optimal performance. Supporting all this with “Crazy Delicious” as well as nutrient-dense superfoods I brought to market in 2015 — Nut-Nola and Seed-Nola!

     

    If you could give a little advice to someone who is recently diagnosed, or just beginning their journey to take back their health, what would it be?

    Don’t panic! Is very important state of mind to have to think clearly.

    Health is not the absence of disease. Health is a natural state in which the body’s systems perform optimally through proper energy supply (nutrients), distribution (digestion, absorption, and circulation) and elimination (waste removal, cell regeneration and protection). For anyone that’s confronting “dis-ease” or fortification against “dis-ease” I would recommend EASE. So first thing is — do not panic.

    Think proactive, not reactive and there is less likelihood of making regretful decisions. Empowerment comes with knowledge of the issue.

    Get the illness to a state of homeostasis — or as close to even keel as possible. Next learn all you can about the illness. Find out what lifestyle habits will support your body to begin its journey back to optimal health.

     

    What’s your favorite way to get in some exercise?

    I exercise regularly as a prevention measure for optimal health. On nice days I love to be outside and walk. I will opt to walk to the store when the weather is right.

    Going to the gym is my go-to and the best way for me to get the consistency I need to maintain body composition, cardiovascular health, lymphatic and detox support.

     

    How do you keep your emotional health strong when life throws challenges your way?

    Emotional strength is positive thinking despite the circumstances.

    I focused on the disease as a temporary state of being, made sure I recognized even the smallest progress in my recovery and each day put in the work to advance my progress — giving up is never an option for me.
