    Classic Green Juice

    Why Drink Green Juice?

    There seem to be a lot of questions around green juice. What is it? Can I make it in my blender? Is it really healthy? Is it worth the trouble/cost? Etc.

    I don’t think that you have to drink green juice in order to heal. However, it can accelerate healing and make you feel great, if you use it properly!

    I like to drink fresh vegetable juice on an empty stomach, first thing in the morning, and with a little drizzle of olive oil to help my body assimilate any fat-soluble vitamins.

    You can also do a juice fast, however those are best done with the guidance of an expert! There are a few nuances, like controlling blood sugar and managing cravings that can be easier done with someone who has done it many times before.

    My last comment here is that some vegetables aren’t healthy when eaten raw and in excess. For example, cruciferous vegetables are said to contain thyroid-inhibitors, and root vegetable juices can be high in sugar. Make sure to rotate the veggies you use in your juice so that you get a good variety of nutrients!

    The biggest benefits of green juice are: 

    1. Getting more vegetables into your diet (and the antioxidants, minerals, vitamins) to prevent disease, give your body energy and reduce inflammation.
    2. The nutrients are easy to digest and flood your cells with nourishment immediately.
    3. The water that juice contains is structured water, which is better able to hydrate on a cellular level.
    4. You can use vegetable juice fasting to provide a healing and restorative cleanse protocol.

    Juicing Ingredients

    Cucumbers and celery are cooling, anti inflammatory and hydrating.

    The apple adds antioxidants and flavonoids which help reduce your risk of cancer and heart disease. It also adds sweetness, so you don’t want to add too much apple.

    The lemons can aid digestion, freshen breath, promote detoxification, support weight loss and help prevent kidney stones.

    I add ginger for its anti inflammatory properties, and because it can aid digestion, lower cholesterol and help balance blood sugar.

    Lastly, I use greens, and in this case parsley, because it supports immune function, has anti cancer properties, promotes bone health and reduces bad breath!

     

    Classic Green Juice

    Ingredients:
    1 lemon
    1/4 inch ginger root
    1 green apple
    1 head of celery, or 1 cucumber
    1 bunch of green leafy vegetables

    Method:
    1. Rinse and scrub all vegetables and fruit. Cut the ends off the produce that needs it.
    2. Prepare the juicer, lock it in place.
    3. Run the vegetables and fruits through the juicer chute. Pour into glasses and enjoy immediately!

    To store: Store juice in an airtight container, minimizing the amount of empty space in the container. Store in the fridge for up to 2 days. Nutrients will diminish over time, but will still be healthy for you!

     

    Juicing Trick
    I like to run the pulp through the juicer chute again so that I can get the most out of my vegetables! It usually yields about 1/2 – 2 more ounces of juice, just depending on your juicer and choice in produce.

      I like the tip of running the pulp through the juicer a second time! I’ve been making beet and carrot juice lately, and use a huge stack of them when I do it.
