    Cranberry Orange Smoothie

    It’s that time of year… you can find fresh organic cranberries on the shelves again! I always get excited about their arrival at the local health food store because I have to wait until the holiday season to experiment with cranberry recipes!

    Cranberries contain a unique combination of antioxidants and phytochemicals that have antimicrobial effects. They are a really good support food for the immune system during cold and flu season. The concentration of nutrients in cranberries also help repair cellular damage from toxins and oxidative stress.

    It’s no accident mother nature provides this food for us during the winter season. Cranberries really are a perfect food for the chilly and stressful holiday season!

    • Prevention of certain forms of cancer
    • Reduced risk of urinary tract infections
    • Lower blood pressure
    • Tissue repair
    • Antimicrobial effect

    Cranberry Orange Smoothie

    2 handfuls of fresh organic cranberries
    ¼ avocado
    ½ – 1 banana, frozen
    4 drops liquid stevia extract, or more to taste (other natural sweeteners are fine too)
    1 Tbs. nut butter
    Handful of ice cubes
    1 c. water or freshly squeezed orange juice
    optional: 1 large slice of orange, peeled

    Blend everything together on high for 10-15 seconds until smooth. You can make this recipe ahead and enjoy for 1-2 days. Just keep refrigerated and stir when ready to consume.
